New Books

I just went on a odd book buying spree. Wanting to get a book on the Cochrane gambit and something on Marshall, I ended up getting three books and a book clip/holder, only one of which was on my list - McDonald's The Art of Logical Thinking. Haha! I sure showed them(ch-ching...$)! The Ideas Behind the Chess Openings appears quite similar to Seirawan's opening book. It doesn't hurt to have another general opening reference, but ultimately it may not be all that helpful OTB. Lastly I got The Middlegame in Chess by Fine. This and the McDonald book will have to suffice as my middlegame manuals since they didn't have The Art of the Middlegame. Already I see the Fine book as a possible alternative for readers who find Nimzovich undigestible or have developed Silman-intolerance. Browsing through it, Fine's book looks to have plenty of nuts and bolts stuff, plus themes that are echoed later in Seirawan's and Silman's writing. It probably will take a very long time to get through the nearly 400 pages of it, though I suspect the mating attacks chapter might go faster than the rest of it.

Addendum: Silman's "Rules of Recognition" seems to be largely lifted out of The Middlegame in Chess, pg. 18.

Here is a humorous chess definitions link I found: :http://alaskachessleague.com/Pages/Chess%20Glossary.htm.
I think the author was just a wee bit frustrated when he wrote it :-).

Congrats on getting the Fine and McDonald books that I recommended. You won't regret them- they are great books.

Another classic I cherish is Richard Reti's Masters of the Chessboard.

Tell me more about this Cochrane Gambit book. I lost a game to this once, and it made me give up the Petroff, I was so annoyed. I fantasized about getting a book on the Cochrane, and learning it inside out for revenge.

I hope it is titled "Beating the Cochrane Gambit" and not "Winning with the Cochrane Gambit" (;-)

I can understand giving up the Petroff because of it. And I didn't have a specific one book on it that I was looking for, and I kind of figured that any book would be helpful. My feeling is that having some Master say, "That gambit just leads to an even game" is unhelpful at my level. I think Black must use much more time in order to safely get into the middlegame, or pay dearly in some manner positionally. I certainly want to get to some level of better preparation on it after the circles.

I could understandCheapest Diablo 3 gold quitting your Petroff for doing it. I was missing a particular a single e-book into it i was looking for, and i also form of decided in which any kind of book can be valuable. The experiencing Cheap wow goldis that obtaining many Learn point out
